Inspired by the locally owned mom and pop businesses on her visit to Japan, Kinkan's creator, Holly Robertson, felt compelled to bring back a piece of the simplicity, community, and peace she felt while visiting. She ended up stepping away from her full-time career as a designer, and beginning to slowly research Japanese products. Always inspired by Japanese design, and attention to quality, she began importing various stationery, ceramics, clothing and other unique items and selling them at markets.

She found that many other people were just as inspired by these products, and that there was a need for a niche shop like Kinkan in Arizona.

And so, almost a year after first visiting Japan, Kinkan Gifts opened their first tiny storefront in the Culdesac in Tempe, AZ.

Kinkan Gifts hopes to bring a sense of community and uniqueness to our neighborhood, and bring little pieces of joy to others though thoughtful gift giving.

Kinkan sources high-quality cute, and unique stationery and gifts from Japanese companies. We also support local artists in Tempe, AZ by carrying their products.
